One Life One Heart (OLOH) International is a non-profit corporation, an exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, that is operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.
Founded by Dr. Michelle M. Kang in October 2014, OLOH International provides programs and services for victims of sexual abuse (men and women of all ages) through public venues (mainly through churches) regardless of their race, ethnicity, or religion. The OLOH program is community-based, victim-centered, and interaction-enriched. It is intended to create safe spaces within the local community to make participants feel safe and comfortable. It is culturally responsive, causes no monetary burden for participants, sensitively deals with language issues, is highly accessible within a community, and is run by trained volunteers (professionals and nonprofessionals of mental health). The most distinctive of the program is that it emphasizes the importance of language and communication in interactions between survivors and volunteers. The OLOH program provides essential mental health care services outside of traditional methods by applying a different lens to mental health services, expanding access to services. The under-served and under-represented communities will have access to services. The OLOH program focuses on observation and giving feedback rather than counseling, helping survivors discover where they are with their sexual abuse and what they need to heal.
OLOH also works on raising social consciousness about sexual abuse and its consequences in the United States and abroad. It aims to provide education through multiple channels, including free lectures, booklets, campaigns, and programs in churches, schools, libraries, and other public venues. The organization also utilizes social media channels and its website to provide facts, statistics, and other related data on causes, current efforts, and solutions for preventing sexual abuse.
The purpose of the corporation is to address, educate, and provide programs and services to prevent sexual abuse on a local and global level and to support sexual abuse survivors in their journey to healing and empowerment. We at OLOH collaborate with volunteers, public venues, and other non-profit organizations to reach this purpose.
One Life One Heart International is operated mainly by soliciting funding from the public or by receiving government funding. Foundations, individuals, and corporations also fund it.
